About Rusty

Okay, I didn’t start Rusty Doodle because my brain started talking to me. Or at least not in the way the comic strip is.

Since young, I have always like to doodle. And I remember how my brothers and I would take our crayons and colour pencils and start to draw on many sheets of paper. After which, we would tape them on the walls and appreciate our masterpieces like connoisseurs. My bedroom still has some of the tape marks from then. Those were the times.

Somewhere down the line however, mastery of the subjects like English, Maths and Science are deemed to be much more important than Doodling in the education system. “You would need those subjects to get yourself a well-paying job in Singapore”, said so many people. So into the drawers the crayons and colour pencils went.

Miraculously, I managed to somehow scrape through the education system and landed myself a decent office job. Looking back, its been great! Those experiences were really invaluable because it helped to develop me as a person and I got to know good friends and cool people in the process. But I do know something is missing although I can’t pin-point what it is.

Eventually, it is my younger brother who inspired something in me. Yes, my brother may be younger but he can be wiser… at times. My brother is an accountant by profession yet he wishes to do something on the creative side. So he started taking animation night classes to achieve that goal. These were the words he said to me one night, “I want to combine my nerdy logical side with my creative side and create value for people”. A bit like the left and right brain ain’t it?

This is it! I too shall bring out my fullest potential through using both sides of my brain! Think about it (pun not intended), if you are using only your left or right side of the brain most of the time, you are only using half of your brain capacity.

Hence, Rusty Doodle is born! A place for me to explore my creative side and share my progress with the world!

What’s in it for the readers?

I can’t guarantee that my doodles would bring you joy because they are free anyway. But if my doodles do manage to bring a smile to your face or you get something positive from this blog, that’s great! Hopefully, your positive energy would in turn rub on someone else and brighten their day too.

Let’s all see the light-hearted side of things and be happy!

Welcome to my doodle land!

I’ve nominated you for a Liebster Award. I almost feel the need to apologize as these “chain awards” can be quite time consuming if you respond to them. Feel free to completely ignore the rules of official acceptance. Just know that I’m glad you’re blogging and hope this helps even more folks to find you. http://trophydaughter.wordpress.com/2013/01/20/liebster-award/

Love your drawings but a cute style can only take you so far 😉 the great thing you have going for you is your sense of humour! Now it is your daily job to make me laugh. Dance jester, dance!

    • rusty March 21, 2013 at 6:36 pm #

Thank you! Not sure about the jester thing though. Their fashion is not my style. 😛

What you say happens to gel with a quote that motivates me and get me started on comic strips.

It is a quote by Scott Adams, the creator of the Dilbert comic series on why he is successful: – “I succeeded as a cartoonist with negligible art talent, some basic writing skills, an ordinary sense of humor and a bit of experience in the business world. The “Dilbert” comic is a combination of all four skills.”

      • Iron Cheftress March 24, 2013 at 7:09 am #

Yeah I love his comic! I just went to eat at Stacey’s and he wrote the menu. Def see a bit of Dilbertness in it. Even in a menu, how cool is that?
